Friday 13th September: Bodriggy boogie, meat pie, and more markets

It might be Friday 13th, but there’s nothing scary around here. Unless your friends aren’t subscribed to the 417, we will curse them. Here is what to get up to this weekend.

The Headlines

Where to Eat and Drink

Abbotsford’s Bodriggy Brewery is a super cool space for a get together, with live music and a tasty Latin American inspired menu. We haven’t stopped thinking about the cauliflower tacos since we left.

Where to Work

Shaken or stirred with a side of an enriched life. Yet another bar is opening in the CBD and you guessed it, they believe in the power of simplicity, elegance, and pure dedication to their craft. They need new ‘players’ for their team whatever that involves, but naturally you need to be driven and motivated with a can-do attitude. Perks? Surely a free cocktail or two.

Where to Live

Never have (will) I ever call Brunswick Brunny, but if you’re after a spot in this creative house it sounds like you might have to. If you’re a musician (active or retired), art installer, architect or artist this could be your new abode.

Core selling point: veggie patch out the back.

Where to Go (Weekend Special)

Friday

A freshers bar crawl for the wannabe adults amongst us. The Kenzo Crawl is taking over the trendy distilleries of Kensington. Buy a pass for $55 and get a different drink at three unique watering holes. If the whisky hits you a little too hard, rest easy knowing the venues are only 900m apart. You're better than that though.

Saturday

About as Melbourne as you can get, Fitzroy Market offers vintage clothes, jewellery stands, coffee, food and (of course) organic fruit and veg. If there’s a time to wear your new op shop outfit and a beret, it’s to fit in whilst swanning around at this popular weekend market. It’s on until 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, so plan it in if you’ve got a wholesome weekend schedule.

Sunday

If you haven’t guessed already, we bloody love a market. For one weekend only, Melbourne’s finest selection of art, home decor, jewellery and antiques comes to Docklands for the creatively named ‘The Melbourne Fair’. It comes with a slightly steep $15 browsing fee, but a small price to pay to see dresses from Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
