Monday 17th February: Retro Sportswear, Croissant Gin & Fragile Masculinity

It's four weeks to go until the infamous Pitch Music & Arts festival, and tickets are running low. The festival sells out every year, so if you've been mulling it over, now's the time to get those tickets secured. Read on for the latest on Melbourne this Monday, whilst deciding on your doof stick slogan for Pitch.

The Headlines

  • The random food combos keep on coming, and the latest addition to the market is a croissant-flavoured gin, courtesy of Lune and Four Pillars. The buttery tipple will be available to buy in-store and online later this week (for $80 a bottle!!) if you want to enjoy your pastry fix at all hours of the day and night. Expect flavours of butter, almond, juniper, wattle seed, nutmeg and a bunch of other botanicals. Apparently, Lune croissants contain nearly double the amount of butter than an average breakfast sweet treat—kind of wish we didn't know that, but it won't stop us from tucking in every weekend.

  • In the lead-up to the Melbourne Fashion Festival kicking off this weekend, a new exhibition has opened at Mars Gallery in Windsor, exploring all things fashion culture, industry, and artisanship. The exhibition called Fashion Artists shows a range of avant-garde multimedia artworks, from a tiramisu handbag to exploring fragile masculinity stereotypes.

  • Before the ponchos came out and ruined the aesthetic, the Laneway fits were out in full force. If you were stuck at home nursing Charli-shaped FOMO, Fashion Journal has kindly rounded up the best looks from the rainy day out. Retro sportswear stole the show, with no Cotton On garms in sight. Obviously the queen herself, Olivia Dean, walked away with the best-dressed award—it was simply never in question.

Where to Eat and Drink

Brighten up your Monday evening with some sunshine, and a delicious burger and beer deal at Hotel Brighton. This welcoming local spot, just a 20-minute stroll from the beach, features a roof terrace perfect for enjoying those long, light evenings. A burger and a beer will only set you back $25 tonight, and if you sign up for a membership before you go, you can bag a free drink as a reward— plus discounted drinks from here on out.

Where to Live

If you've ever wished you could nip into the lounge for some holistic wellness advice, now's your chance. This Windsor flat comes complete with a naturopath-in-training and a travel-loving med student for all your ailments. The space itself is filled with all the usuals: overgrown houseplants, scribbled notes on the fridge, and beside salt lamps.

Core selling point: an outdoor courtyard that could rival some of the city's nicest wine bars.

Where to Work

Quest Prahran is looking for a casual receptionist at their hotel just off Chapel Street for 18-24 hours a week. It has exactly the job spec you'd expect—check-in, check out, telling people where their room is—all with a smile on your face, of course. Good personal presentation is required, so as long as you've showered, you'll be just fine. Working on a hotel reception has to be the most chilled job going—sounds like you'd be spending your days watching TikTok at your desk.

Where to Go

Melbourne's newest activity just dropped, Quiz Room is an immersive TV-style quiz that you can go and play with your mates. At the new venue just next to Victoria Market, you can spend an hour going mental on the buzzers, testing your general or music knowledge. Ideal for a birthday get-together, $45 gets you a session in the set, complete with dramatic music and lights, of course. Makes your weekly pub trivia look a bit rubbish now.
