Monday 3rd March: Naked Cycling, Five-Star Sandwiches & A Flair for Theatrics

Tonight is the first in a run of a whopping five shows in Melbourne from Dua Lipa—all the A-listers seem to be hanging around at the moment. The shows are sold out, but if you’re desperate to see your celebrity crush, there are bound to be resale tickets floating about. Here is the rest of the latest from Melbourne today.

The Headlines

  • In case you missed the spectacle, Melbourne hosted its 20th annual naked bike ride around the CBD and inner suburbs yesterday—(censored) photos are available here. The event was in support of body positivity, bike rider safety, and low-carbon transport, which sounds like a very diluted message—surely it’s just for the thrill, can’t blame them. Lime bikes are potentially to be avoided for the near future, you’ve got no idea what might have been on that seat.

  • Melbourne Zoo has announced a "Roar and Pour" after-hours event, where you can wander the enclosures at golden hour, grab a drink from one of the pop-up bars, and pretend you’re on safari without leaving the city. Somebody on the marketing team thinks they're a creative genius with that name. It’s running on March 21st and 22nd, so if your ideal night out involves giraffes and a gin and tonic, you know what to do.

  • Who doesn’t love a good nosey at a fancy house? This one belongs to the founders of Frank Body, and unsurprisingly, it's pretty nice. High ceilings, sleek finishes, and plenty of space to humble us a little. Expressions of interest are open if you're in the market for a $4mill gaff, and enjoy the answer to the age old question of what exactly a successful coffee scrub empire can get you.

Where to Eat and Drink

Today's pick is a Melbourne favourite, often hailed for some of the city's best sangas. Nico's now has three locations: CBD, Richmond, and Fitzroy. Their motto? Home of the 'original five-star sandwich,' and it's hard to argue with that. This Italian-Australian sandwich spot serves up toasted classics and daring new combos. The Cubano, packed with pork belly and chimichurri, is a crowd favourite, but don't miss their new special: the Giardiniera, with roast peppers, fior di latte, and salsa verde.

Where to Live

People would pay millions for the natural light shining through this house, but it could be all yours for a mere $1k a month. You'd be living with three others who between them love a glass of wine, trip to the market, and a rock climbing wall—pretty standard Melbourne behaviour. Available from April, it's a perfect spot to get settled in before winter arrives.

Core selling point: did we mention that natural light?

Where to Work

If you think you’ve got a ‘flair for theatrics’, Rush Escape Games is hiring for Junior Game Masters—you don’t get better job titles than that. They have several escape room venues across Melbourne, and flexible positions are available in South Yarra, Hawthorn, and St Kilda. You might have to scare a few kids and do a bit of amateur dramatics, but it’s far better hours than hospo—and sounds much more fun.

Where to Go

Hardrock Melbourne isn't, as you might think, the world's least favourite restaurant chain, but in fact a huge indoor climbing centre in the CBD. This very intimidating looking floor-to-ceiling bouldering wall actually caters to all abilities, and no need to book, just rock up for $24 a session. Experienced climbers will have an absolute field day with 16-metre walls and some difficult cave-style bouldering, and newbies are welcome to just rock up in pairs to help each other give the wall a go.
