Thursday 10th April: White Lotus, Whitney & Plenty of Focaccia

This year's world rich list has been revealed, and Melbourne comes in at number 16 with a whopping 94,000 millionaires, 108 centi-millionaires and 12 billionaires. Never been a better time to get swiping on Hinge in pursuit of an old-money lifestyle living in a Brighton beachfront mansion. Here's the latest from Melbourne today—one day closer to making it on the rich list.

The Headlines

  • If you're still mourning the end of White Lotus Season 3, obviously the natural next step is to channel your inner character and dine like them right here in Melbourne. Sitchu has matched the personalities to restaurants across the city, and it's an entertaining read. Some highlights include Victoria and Timothy feeling right at home at Grill Americano, and Saxon and Lochlan attempting to impress at Gimlet. Here's the full list if we’ve whet your appetite.

  • One of the successes of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been British comedian Red Richardson's show, Bugatti. Richardson has millions of views on his socials, and recently completed as 60-date, sold-out tour in the UK and US. This critically acclaimed show has been debuting in Australia for the first time, and there is just a week left to catch it.

  • Looking for a new suburb to mooch around in this weekend? Maybe it’s time to give Port Melbourne a go. You’ve got the beach, a breezy walk into the city, and now—thanks to this guide—plenty of brunch options too. Pick Frontside Food & Wine for mezze breakfast plates, or get comfy at Lilijana, where the house-baked pastries are inspired by the owner’s Nonna (adorable). Adette is a winner for espresso martinis with your eggs, and Baba’s Deli is serving a vodka chicken focaccia that may apparently change your life.

Where to Eat and Drink

Melbourne's ability to nail a sandwich simply can't be argued with—especially when focaccia is involved. Sort your lunch out this week at FOC on Little Collins in the CBD. Their focaccias are exactly how they should be: light and fluffy inside, crispy outside, and generously filled. Every sandwich is $18 or less. Our picks? The rare beef or the mushroom—delicious.

Where to Live

This Fitzroy North sharehouse could be our favourite one yet—filled with exposed brick, mid-century decor and furniture, and a bathroom you could spend hours in. It's available from 7th May, and the housemates sounds like a fun bunch, including a ceramicist, a scientist, and a keen DIY-er. An absolute steal for $1,036 per month.

Core selling point: That plant-laden skylight looks like something off Grand Designs.

Where to Work

Australia's answer to Jack Wills or Ralph Lauren is Country Road, and they're hiring for a casual sales assistant in their big flagship South Yarra store. The store is never busy and it would be an easy life—wandering the shop floor and bonding with all the middle-aged women that work in there. It might not be the best store to work in for employee discount perks, but at least you might find one of those many Melbourne millionaires in there to flirt with.

Where to Go

If you back yourself as a bit of a Whitney after a bottle of wine, Evie’s in Fitzroy should be top of your list tonight. Every Thursday it turns into a karaoke lover’s heaven, with an open stage from 8pm ‘til late—your Instagram stories hate to see you coming. $8 Fireballs lead the menu, ready to transport you right back to the sticky floors of your hometown's only club, or opt for the $10 espresso martinis if those days are behind you.
