Thursday 16th January: Free Aperol, Lively Doubles & Indie Nostalgia
Times must be tough for Andy Murray's bank account since he retired as he has joined Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry, and other celebs to take part in semi-humiliating food delivery ads. Andy's Uber Eats ad shows him racing through the streets of Melbourne, so if you see him wandering the streets red-faced, you know why. Here is what's going on this Thursday.
The Headlines
If you’re a northsider who’s been meaning to catch up with your friend living all the way southside for the longest time, pick a spot from this list of the 50 best restaurants in the CBD for your next meet-up. There are absolutely thousands of eateries to pick from in the city, and it can be very overwhelming to know what’s got the seal of approval, but there are cheap eats, wine bars, and every cuisine you could ever dream of featured on this list to help you out.
St Kilda's getting Palace Foreshore is making a return as a go-to music spot in the city and has locked in its headliners for the coming months. They're kicking off with The Kooks for your indie nostalgia fix, Fontaines DC for when you're missing proper pubs, and Honey Dijon for when you need to remind yourself why you left Fabric behind. Running from February 27 to March 16, with sunset views over the bay, it's just another reminder of why we live in this stunning city.
As if they needed to give us any more reasons to love them, Republic Economica will give you a free Aperol Spritz if you flash your Aussie Open ticket at the bar. There's no catch—they're just spreading some love during the happy slam. The sweet deal is on until finals day (25th), so you've got plenty of time to lap it up. Already our go-to venue for literally any occasion, we can now add sports night to the list.
Where to Eat and Drink
Tuckshop Bagels is a southside gem serving up some of the best bagels this side of NYC. This hole-in-the-wall joint serves up the classic bagels we all know and love, alongside their range of 'Luxe Bagels' and weekly specials to die for. Not to mention their speciality coffee and sweet treat selection. Keep your eye on their Insta for what they're cooking up each week, and make sure to try if you're down in Moorabin.
Where to Live
This West Brunswick house has the most uni lounge we've seen since second year, but the exposed brick throughout bags it back a few brownie points. The room is all yours for $912 a month if you have a sense of humour and get Travis the landlord's seal of approval. While not huge partiers, the current housemates are keen for the occasional game of pool in their spooky looking garage if you're looking for some new friends as well as somewhere to lay your head.
Core selling point: very Aussie exterior.

Where to Work
The AFL season being back soon does, unfortunately, signal the end of summer approaching, but it does also come with a lot of work opportunities available throughout the upcoming months. This one is based at Marvel Stadium in Docklands as a casual customer service event team member. You'll be tasked with knowing the venue like the back of your hand and keeping the AFL punters happy. You’ll also be on hand for concerts at the stadium that has seen the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran—sounds like free tickets to us.
Where to Go
There are still plenty of tickets left to see American singer Benson Boone tonight at the Festival Hall in West Melbourne for around $100. You may recognise his discography from TikTok, as most of his songs have been popular sounds at some point, but that aside, he’s a popular performer and has some bangers to his name. He's also gracing the stage tomorrow in the same location if tonight doesn't work.
Match Point Pick
A great day for the Brits yesterday, with both Draper and Fearnley making it through to Round 3. Turning to Thursday's action, four Aussies are set to light up John Cain Arena in the first round of the men's doubles tonight. The Special Ks—Kokkinakis and Kyrgios, take on fellow countrymen Vukic and Duckworth in what's set to be a huge match. Count yourself very lucky if you manage to bag a seat inside for it—it'll be a lively one.
