Thursday 26th September: NE-YO, free trams & kisses from Katy Perry

Happy National Dumpling Day all, if you didn't get your fill of dumplings at Hawker Hall yesterday, there are even more on offer today. If dumplings aren't your thing, there is much more going on around Melbourne today, here is our round-up.

The Headlines

  • Katy Perry has touched down in Melbourne ahead of her big performance at the AFL finals on Saturday. She has obviously been on TikTok like the rest of us, and has fallen in love with the zoo's mysteriously large fluffy penguin who has been the talk of the town for the last week. Katy even said that she wants to kiss him, join the line, sweetie.

  • CBD mini golf bar Holey Moley is getting a swanky upgrade, with new technologies including bonus point games and live leaderboards. The bar is also expanding to include a ball pit, memory games and even an egg and spoon race, sounds like carnage waiting to happen after a few drinks. The new and improved venue is set to open early next month, watch this space.

  • For those of you who don't enjoy the thrill of not tapping the old Myki card, you'll get to travel for free a little bit further this weekend. During the 'footy festival' the free tram zone will be extended out to the MCG and Yarra Park if you're heading that way. There is the risk it'll be busier than the London Underground at rush hour though so you might want to walk anyway.

Where to Eat and Drink

Casual canteen Silk Spoon soft launched in its new CBD home last week, with a menu inspired by East Asian, Indian and Middle-Eastern flavours. Designed for office-goers, but appealing to the masses, nothing exceeds $18 and a coffee will only set you back $3.50 (we challenge you to find cheaper in Melbourne). With gorgeous interior design, a bargain menu and experienced chefs, its not one to miss.

Where to Live

Obsessed with this Prahan flat with a rooftop bar area that rivals the fancy ones in the CBD. The room itself is pretty basic, but we're sure the levelled-up hosting opportunities, city views and bragging rights can help you overlook that.

Core selling point: extra large private shower, they're hard to come by these days.

Where to Work

If you know your Cha-Cha Slides from your Macarenas, creatively named Kids Disco Parties is hiring a casual DJ. Offering a healthy $60 an hour, there sounds like no better way to spend your weekends. Requirements include a 'love of disco dance moves' and 'ability to relate to 4-14 year olds', if this sounds like you, this could be the perfect way to kickstart your international DJ career and we are sure you'll be selling out Section 8 in no time.

Where to Go

What better way to spice up your Thursday night than bagging a last minute ticket to see none other than NE-YO at Rod Laver Arena. There's still some standing tickets available but it will cost you a sweet $200 to get down to Miss Independent. If you don't fancy taking the risk on Katy Perry rocking up at Poof Doof but still want a boogie to some throwbacks, Give Me Everything might be a safer bet than The One That Got Away.
