Thursday 3rd April: Mall Grab, Pie Trail & A Touch of Barcelona
If you hadn't heard, the next federal election in Australia is happening on 3rd May, and campaigns are in full force. While we have as much power as pre-suffragette-era women, it’s still interesting to keep up to date with the opinion polls and what's going on. Take a look at what else is happening today in Melbourne.
The Headlines
A late-night food festival is hitting Windsor this weekend and the action kicks off tonight. Night Shift is taking over Chapel Street, bringing together some of Melbourne’s best eats, drinks, and DJs—all after dark. Expect bites from local favourites like Tokyo Tina and Mr Miyagi, alongside pop-up bars and live music. Entry is free—what a treat.
In stark contrast to Rita Ora yesterday, today's ticket drop comes from Aussie-born producer Mall Grab, who's fresh off an international run. He’s announced a home-nation tour with some of his biggest headline shows yet, and obviously, a night at PICA is in the mix. Tickets drop today at 1 pm—so on-brand for a DJ to skip the morning ticket rush.
You loved the Messina egg launch, so here's a look at its competition. Piccolina Gelateria's Uovo di Pasqua range is more than just your standard Easter egg. Handcrafted with the iconic ice cream spot's signature gelato-filled centres—think hazelnut praline, pistachio, and salted caramel—each one is wrapped in a crisp chocolate shell that’s almost too pretty to smash. They’ll set you back $39 a pop, but if we’d guess anything in this life, it’s that they won’t be around for long.
Where to Eat and Drink
Leaning into Melbourne’s so-called ‘European vibe,’ this CBD bar will transport you straight to the streets of Barcelona. Kirk’s Wine Bar nails the balance between effortlessly chic and comfortably casual, making it the ideal spot for a long afternoon of people-watching with a glass in hand. The interior is cosy yet sophisticated, and the small but carefully curated menu means you’ll never struggle to find the perfect pairing. Whether you're catching up with mates or trying to impress a Hinge date, this spot delivers every time.
Where to Live
The master bedroom in this old Toorak terrace is available, and it comes complete with a private balcony and skyline views. It has a colourful exterior, a yard, and stain glass windows—which make up for the retro kitchen. Its $294 per week, and available May to August, with opportunity to extend the lease.
Core selling point: Flatmates include a painter, a footy-loving finance bro, and a handyman—covering all bases there really.
Where to Work
If you remember the game Among Us that was a huge trend a while back, it turns out some people never got over it. There's an immersive game in Docklands where you can play in real life, and they're looking for staff. Saboteurs is hiring a Game Site Operator to make it a fun experience for all involved and ensure the games run smoothly. There’s hourly pay up to $40 on offer, and with the place of work being one big game, it sounds like a fun one.
Where to Go
Macedon Ranges is a collection of villages an hour on the train outside of Melbourne, and all this month, they're holding an Autumn Festival. There are events on every day from markets, nature trails, and workshops, to some top-notch food and drink. Their main event is Australia's largest Pie & Tart Trail, with over 50 options for any sweet treat lovers. If you're as wowed by kangaroos as we are, the area is known for its large population of roos—if you weren't already convinced.
