Thursday 5th December: koala cocktails, candlelit strings & Melbourne's best dressed
This could be niche, but if anyone else is obsessed with South Yarra's coolest spot, Republic Economica, they’ve just dropped their new menu—stacked with bargains as per usual. Here’s what else is happening on this sunny Thursday.
The Headlines
There's a lot of Beyond The Valley chat everywhere at the moment (ticket-selling pages, we're looking at you), but there are actually loads of other festivals going on over the next few months too. Here's a list of the very best of it. You've got Good Things this weekend and plenty of other New Years events across the city to choose from. Dress code tip: more flip-flops than wellies.
We all know the feeling of wearing the same three outfits on repeat, and the changing of the seasons is always the perfect excuse for a wardrobe refresh. Broadsheet has ventured around the city to capture what the best-dressed Melbournians have been wearing on the streets, so take a look for some inspo. Highly recommend showing your friends the pictures and playing 'guess the suburb' based on the outfits—it's a great (and surprisingly easy) game.
Many festivities are being booked in, and Christmas diaries are filling up. We’ve got one more activity to your list. There are many places in Melbourne offering a 'Christmas high tea', better known as an afternoon tea, and here is a round-up. If you're after a wholesome taste of home with a familiar stand full of scones, turkey sandwiches and other festive bites, a high tea is a cute Friendsmas option.
Where to Eat and Drink
Christmas markets don't really have the same feel when it's 30 degrees outside, but this pop-up bar in Collingwood is trying its best to bring some traditional Christmas vibes to sunny Melbourne. There are plenty of novelty cocktails from a Koala La La La to your classic snowball and mulled wine. Miracle on Hurontario Street is the perfect place to gather your friends for a festive evening. Close your eyes, and you're in Manchester's Albert Square—Feliz Navidad.
Where to Live
If you're looking for a Chapel Street summer, a room in this Prahran flat is up for grabs. You'd have a walk in wardrobe, ensuite, and a courtyard coming off your room—not much more you could wish for really. There are stockings hung already, literally ready and waiting for you to come and join the fun.
Core selling point: gorgeous green furniture.
Where to Work
From the response to yesterday's AO warm-up event mention, it seems we have some tennis fans amongst us. Well, if you want free entry to the games and have a passion for making delicious salads, this could be the job for you. Fishbowl is looking for casual staff to run its pop-up at the Open, and they'll throw in some merch and free tickets for your days off as some extra perks. You might even gain an insight into the players’ orders—we bet Jack Draper loves a crispy chicken with extra avo.

Where to Go
Collingwood Town Hall is hosting Candlelight: Best of Bridgerton on Strings, where you can hear all the Bridgerton faves performed live by a string band. Tickets are currently 20% off, starting at just $24 for a candlelit night of classics. There is, unfortunately, a suggested Bridgerton-inspired dress code, so if you happen to have a gown gathering dust at the back of the wardrobe, now’s the time to get it out.
