Thursday 5th September: Cannoli heaven, cheese enthusiasts & floating drinks
Happy birthday to Freddie Mercury and happy Thursday to you. It’s nearly the weekend and it’s looking like we might even get a little bit of sun. But first, today’s updates.
The Headlines
It’s cannoli galore over in Carlton. With four flavours to choose from every day, Cannoleria’s latest opening is the perfect spot for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. All the ingredients are locally sourced, too. Bonus.
From Italy to Thailand, Melbourne’s much-loved Soi 38 has announced it’s leaving the car park life behind and moving to 235 Bourke Street. No soft openings around here though, the husband-and-wife owners are going to surprise us all one morning and begin operating from the new space.
ICYMI: Jack Draper was victorious in his battle with the Demon and makes it into the semis without dropping a set all tournament. The last player to do that was Emma Raducanu who went on to win the whole thing so watch this space.
Where to Eat and Drink
If you’ve fallen back into the 9-5 since moving here and Thursday work drinks are still the highlight of your week, Yarra Botanica is your spot. With live music and DJs from 5pm tonight all the way through the weekend, this floating bar is the perfect place for a cocktail or 5.

Where to Live
This bargain full house in St Kilda is screaming out for four Irish lads to take over and make it their own. The living room design is a choice but nothing a browse on FB Marketplace can’t fix. Really affordable, and fully furnished down to pots and pans. Core selling point: the teeny-tiny kitchen island.
