Thursday 7th November: bargain bottomless, city escapes & serving Andy Murray

Did anyone else go and see Take That last night to wash away their election blues, or just us? 10/10 would recommend. If you didn't, here's how you can boost your mood today.

The Headlines

  • If you're a foodie looking to escape the city for a day trip or even a little weekend away, you're in the right place. Victoria has plenty of regional food and drink spots on offer, and here's a handy list rounding up the very best of them. Totti's Lorne, with its beachside views, has gone right to the top of our list.

  • Ronan Keating's performance at the Cup on Tuesday has been slated, with attendees calling it 'desperate' and saying he was 'making random noises'. The Boyzone singer who recently made the move to Aus with his family from Ireland was seemingly upstaged by Sophie Ellis-Bexter, who also performed at the big day. We still love our Irish king.

  • Tickets for Boiler Room's Sugar Mountain event go on sale this morning at 10am for January 18th-19th, and it looks like a good one. Featuring Ben UFO, Peach, Sherelle, and Chaos in the CBD (AKA the only ones on the line-up we've heard of) among other big names (so we’re told), it's set to be a big midsummer day of boogying. It's being held at the Seaworks Maritime Precinct, which is a fair trek out of the city, but these industrial-style venues are what Boiler Room does best.

Where to Eat and Drink

For potentially the best value-for-money bottomless brunch in Melbs, head right into the CBD. Located in the heart of Southbank, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Left Bank offer a bottomless that's tough to beat. For a bargain $49 per person (price does vary depending on the time chosen) you can sip on as many cocktails as you can, for two hours, whilst enjoying a tasty item from their brunch menu. Left Bank is a huge venue, so it's a fun place for birthdays or big get-together plans. Get yourself booked in for the weekend.

Where to Live

There's a full three-bed apartment up for grabs in Doncaster if you're looking for somewhere to share with existing friends rather than Fairy Floss randomers. Perfect for those with a car who don't mind being a little bit further out of the action but there are only two parking spots available, so fight that one out between yourselves. If any of you happen to be here with your five-year-old kids, don't fear—there are plenty of 'sought after schools' close by.

Core selling point: seven-seater-sofa—go on then.

Where to Work

Another day, another Australian Open job listing. They’re coming in thick and fast at the moment, but working at the open is the perfect way to get yourself into the open and maybe even serve canapés to Andy Murray and Roger Federer. This role is for wait staff in the suites, bound to be laced with some big names in the biz. Bulk recruitment days (sounds awful) are being held soon, so get applying.

Where to Go

If you missed Take That but fancy a night at Rod Laver anyway, Dean Lewis can woo you with a ballad or two this evening. He's stopping by Melbourne tonight and tomorrow as part of his world tour, and you're most likely to know some of his TikTok classics like 'Waves' and 'Stay Awake'. Not quite 'Never Forget' but guaranteed to be a fun night nonetheless.
