Tuesday 29th October: free Nando's, Richmond roastery & fluffy ear muffs
We’re back with another reminder of why you moved here in the first place: tonight’s sunset is at 7:52 PM. In London? 4:40 PM. We’ll leave you with that thought and some ideas on how to make the most of your long day.
The Headlines
Melbourne Fashion Week drew to a close this weekend, and Australia's cultural capital didn't disappoint with many wacky and wonderful outfits to admire. Here is a round-up of some outfits at the Emporium Melbourne's 10-year anniversary party, most of which wouldn't look out of place parading up and down Gertrude Street. It seems fluffy ear muffs are back in vogue.
PSA: you can get free chicken and chips from the brand-new Nando's in Richmond today from 11 am to 8 pm. What a dream come true. The famous Portuguese chain is embracing a refined menu and new and upgraded decor and we'll give it to them—the photos make it look just like one of Richmond's many other popular eateries.
From a stroll around one of Melbourne's many parks or markets to a morning in the op shops or—for the more adventurous—a kayak down the Yarra, we’re spoiled for choice with activities across the city to keep us busy. Time Out has rounded up the top 50 options in this handy list for the next time you find yourself uninspired with a few hours to fill.
Where to Eat and Drink
It would be impossible to claim to have found the best coffee in Melbourne with just too many to sample, but Maker is very much up there. They have five locations around the city, with one being their roastery in Richmond where you can sit and see where the magic happens. The star-of-the-show coffee is, of course, served alongside your classic selection of pastries and toasties.
Where to Live
The living areas in this Fitzroy North house look like they've been plucked straight from a Bali holiday brochure—wooden detail, exposed brick and natural light throughout. You'd also be living with a film director and a costume designer, there has to be some free red carpet passes in there somewhere.
Core selling point: no bed just a mattress on the floor, sooo Northside.
Where to Work
Never have I ever set foot in Universal Store and not been asked my deepest darkest secrets by a 21-year-old casual within ten seconds. If complementing strangers and bouncing around the shop floor in cargo pants is your thing, the South Wharf store needs you. The seasonal temp vacancy has gone live if you're looking for something to keep you busy until Jan. Have a couple of Red Bulls before your interview and they'll snap you up.
Where to Go
Australian candle makers Blaze and Foam are holding a pop-up this week in Docklands. In this candle-making experience, you can get creative by designing your own soy candle from scent to sticker. It's on from 10:30 am to 4 pm all week and sets you back $45. You're just in time to post it to your mum for a lovely little handmade Christmas present too.
