Tuesday 3rd December: laser maze, netball & one sweaty spring

Christmas trees are going up around the city, and if you want in on the action without the price tag, KMart, of course, is selling a little tree for just $10 this year. Here's what's going on in Melbourne on the real Tuesday (apologies for yesterday, we’re only human).

The Headlines

  • December is an expensive time of year and we all love a freebie, so allow us to present you with this comprehensive list of all the best free things to do in Melbourne. From stunning walks, to free entry exhibitions and places to find Australian wildlife—there's an option for every rainy (or hopefully sunny) day.

  • Australia's best pizza chain has been decided by the Italian experts themselves, and 400 Gradi takes the crown. This title comes as it has been ranked 8th best in the world, the only Aussie chain making it to the top 10. With locations in the CBD, Essendon and Brunswick, their award winning pizzas are well worth a visit.

  • In good news for us but bad news for global warming, Aus is seeing the hottest spring on record since the 60s. Melbourne's November average temperature was a humbling 21 degrees, a world away from the sweaty days we are currently experiencing, but no complaints here. While climate experts might be freaking out, beer gardens are calling and it's time to bask in the sun.

Where to Eat and Drink

Deepend Pizza offers an authentic American pizza experience, perfect for a midweek bite. The family-run joint is located in the heart of Fitzroy on Brunswick St and is operated by an American chef and pizza lover alongside his Aussie wife. They're on a mission to recreate regional American pizza styles inspired by the places the owner has lived and worked. For that classic American pizza pie, go for the Chicago deep dish, but if you prefer it thin, give the New York a try and make sure to pair both with a ranch or blue cheese dip.

Where to Live

This St Kilda apartment looks like a stunning place to settle into just before summer—and not just because of the Dyson Bladeless fan. The entire flat is so well put together, including a real life piano and about as far away from a dingy London sharehouse as you can get. Both rooms are up for grabs either together or separately and each one has a unique vibe—no short straw here.

Core selling point: it has to be the stunning vintage piano, doesn't it?

Where to Work

The new Monopoly Dreams experience in Melbourne is here to give you a get out of jail (of unemployment) free card with this casual role at the CBD attraction. Some days you could be dressing up as the big man Mr Monopoly himself, others you could be working as a prison guard or running the laser maze, and on the boring days, just in the gift shop. All it takes to become a 'Monopolian' is a bit of hospo or retail experience and enthusiasm for the game.

Where to Go

There's a netball session for working holiday girls every Tuesday down at Port Melbourne Primary School from 6-7:30pm. Everybody is welcome whether you're a master of the WA bib or haven't touched a netball since high school. At just $8 per session, it's a great way to meet new people whilst getting some fun exercise in. Treat yourself to a well earned beer at the pub around the corner afterwards too. Here's a link to join the WhatsApp group if it sounds like a bit of you.
