Tuesday 5th November: breast milk, trap doors & poop scooping
We are in full support of the Australian tradition to give a local public holiday on major event days. Wether you're off work or earning double pay, enjoy the sun and have a good one. This is our best bits for today in Melbourne.
The Headlines
The question on everyone's lips: does Melbourne have a trap door issue? It's looking like the answer might be yes as Chris Martin fell through the Marvel Stadium stage on Sunday night just a few weeks after Olivia Rodrigo fell victim to the Rod Laver arena. He got back up and carried on though of course, viva la vida style.
We've all come to appreciate Melbourne's unique approach to coffee orders, but this Docklands café might just have taken it a step too far. Breast milk was added to the list of alternatives as a lighthearted nod to the ever-growing list of barista requests. The reception was mixed with some women joking about it being their new side hustle, with some not seeing the funny side. Either way, it’s certainly an attempt at spicing up the morning commute.
Festivals in Victoria are trailing a new initiative where you can get your drugs tested for harmful chemicals, the third Australian state to pass this new legislation. It doesn't mean drugs are decriminalised, but no laws will be broken for taking them to be tested. There will be stands at 10 festivals across the state so if you're off to a festival, stay safe.
Where to Eat and Drink
You don't have to be plant-based to enjoy all the vegan goodness Lona Misa has to offer. This Latin-inspired South Yarra restaurant offers a new and exciting approach to food and cocktails. Ditching the typical vegan diner or fast-food joint aesthetic, Lona Misa offers a classy, timeless dining experience that both meat and non-meat lovers will enjoy. We recommend going tapas style with the ‘queso con chorizo’ and the ‘barbacoa tostadas’ for un-beatable mock lamb and chorizo.
Where to Live
No vapers allowed in this Richmond townhouse, but if you’re not partial to an IGET Bar or two, it could be the spot for you. The house comes fully furnished, down to the adorable toaster and kettle. An added bonus has to be that one of your future housemates is a pilot—aka the perfect long-term investment friend when it’s time to book flights home.
Core selling point: multi-coloured cocktail and wine glass display.
Where to Work
Ever wanted to get paid for stalking other people's pets? The Pets Hotel in Port Melbourne is looking for a casual kennel attendant over the summer, and it sounds like a dream. If you're missing your family dog back home, redirect that pet-deprived energy into professional poop scooping and tennis ball throwing. They aren't even asking for previous animal experience, so if you've always wanted to work with animals, it's your time to shine.
Where to Go
If you didn't snag tickets to the Cup and you dare to venture out of the house when there is a public hol surcharge on, then The Royal Saxon are holding a cup day lunch event with bottomless drinks. It will set you back $89 for a sharing lunch and drinks package, with a big screen on to show the races. Luckily they still have their happy hour on from 3pm-6pm and a $20 steak deal on in the evening if you want to stick around the whole day.
