Tuesday 8th October: free coffee, Grand Prix tix & pastel de natas
Tickets go on sale today for the 2025 Melbourne Grand Prix at 12pm. Whether you’re a F1 fanatic, want to avoid the FOMO, or just fancy Charles Leclerc, it’s always the event of the year. Here is what else is going on in Melbourne today—apart from at 12pm of course.
The Headlines
DoorDash is giving away 50,000 free coffees, and they're up for grabs between now and the 21st of October. The freebies are to mark the launch of a new pick-up feature and to support small businesses in the CBD. To redeem, you simply need to order for collection at one of the participating stores.
South Melbourne has historically been classed as one of the sleepier suburbs, but after the recent spate of fancy restaurants, bars and delis popping up, it's quickly becoming a hotspot. We've all taken a trip to South Melbourne Market then immediately left the area, but now there are some decent places to add to your never-ending 'to-go' list. Here are the highlights.
A weekend of live music has been announced to mark the end of the Australian Open. AO Live will span three days and feature the likes of Kaytranada, Kesha and Benson Boone. Picture the scene: a packed-out John Cain arena with an Aperol in each hand, Kesha’s Die Young playing in the background, and the chance to see a rogue Carlos Alcaraz wandering about. Inject it into our veins!!!
Where to Eat and Drink
With locations in Thornbury and Windsor, Casa Nata is Melbourne's first and only dedicated Portuguese tart cafe, otherwise known as a pastel de nata for the food snobs amongst us. Perfect for the indecisive, they just serve the tarts and coffee, so there’s no big menu to stress over. With just one thing to perfect, they’ve done it very well—absolutely worth a trip for a sweet treat.
Where to Live
This adorable balcony alone is enough to make us want to move into this Fitzroy flat. The rooftop, BBQ area, and firepit are all just bonuses. You'd be living with two tennis fans who enjoy an occasional drink—Friday vinos on that gorgeous balcony we hope.
Core selling point: adorable little balcony, just incase you missed it.
Where to Work
Pizzaiolos, listen up. Domino's in Carlton is looking for casual team members to get stuck in all around the kitchen. Their version of corporate hell appears to be an annual pizza-making competition if you last that long. Added bonus: the famous cap comes as a freebie.
Where to Go
PowerPlay is an indoor go-karting arena down on the Peninsula where you can zoom around the track at speeds of up to 70km/h. Popular with kids, work parties, and backpackers alike, it’s the perfect rainy day activity to drag your mates along to. Plus, if you missed out on Melbourne Grand Prix tickets, this is about as close as you can get.
