Wednesday 11th September: Bargain parmi, new trainers & mates dates
Wednesday thought of the day: people-watching is so in. So is what Melbourne has to offer us today, here’s the best of it.
The Headlines
Not that it will be a surprise to absolutely anybody, but Melbourne has been named as ‘Australia’s ketamine capital’. God knows why it’s taken so long, all the officials had to do was take a trip to Revs on a Saturday night.
If you’re one of the lucky ones with a gold-dust office job on the Working Holiday Visa, your luck may be quickly turning. With mayoral candidates planning to enforce a mandatory office policy in the CBD, your blissful work-from-bed days could be behind you.
Well-loved South Yarra burger joint Hello Sam has had a Mexican makeover, now ‘Sam’s Cali Cantina’. The new ’quesabirria’ would leave Mexicans quaking but totally suits our embarrassingly Gen-Z palate. Can’t wait to try.
Where to Eat
$22 parmi and a pot (or wine but that doesn't quite have the same ring) - go on then. Booking is recommended for this midweek deal at The Aviary Hotel in Abbotsford. The rest of the menu looks pretty tasty too if you're not feeling like embracing Aussie cuisine today.
Where to Work
In the market for some new trainers to replace the scruffy ones you've had since landing in Nomads 6 months ago? Onitsuka Tiger needs staff, and the role comes with generous discounts. Hopefully the interview is on Zoom so you can hide the broken soles of your Spezials a little bit longer.
Where to Live
Drivers and non-drivers welcome in this Balaclava spring sublet. Comes with all the fittings including a coffee machine, so you can stop finding an excuse to buy two out a day. And after a quick Google, we learned a euro laundry is just a washing machine tucked in a cupboard, not one like Circuit Laundry (iykyk) so wins all round.
Core selling point: a car stacker.
Where to Go
TimeLeft's algorithm makes your dinner plans for you and matches you with five potential new friends; kinda like a platonic first date. It's on offer every Wednesday, so good for a mid week if you've not spoken to anyone other than your colleagues since the weekend. Let us know how it is if you do try it, we're intrigued.
