Wednesday 13th November: noodle tasting, navy bedsheets & a triple threat
Hold your passionfruits, Drake teased a return to Australia after 7 years on Instagram yesterday—keep your eyes peeled. Read on for what else Wednesday has to offer us.
The Headlines
We're quickly starting to realise you'd be silly to book a flight at full price. Qantas is offering cheap flights again but you've only got until tomorrow to snap them up. It's domestic flights in the limelight this time with a trip to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Hobart, Sydney, Adelaide and more up for grabs for less than $200 so now's the perfect time to escape Melbourne if you're yet to venture any further than the peninsula.
If you’re looking for somewhere to lose your voice on a Saturday night, Melbourne is home to plenty of karaoke bars with a stage waiting to be graced by your dulcet tones. Whether you'd rather perform in the safety of a private room or back yourself to sing to the crowds of the CBD, there's an option for every musical occasion. We're letting you know well ahead of the weekend so you've got plenty of time to learn every single word to Natasha Bedingfield's ‘Unwritten’, or whatever else you've got up your sleeve.
TamJai Mixian, a staple in Hong Kong, is making its way Down Under, and Melbourne is first in line. The fast-food chain serves big bowls of customisable noodles, with a whole range of soup bases and toppings to choose from. Melbourne already does Asian food pretty well, but the four new stores are sure be a welcome addition to the repertoire. If that doesn’t have you sold, the tasting counters just might.
Where to Eat and Drink
Todays pick will transport you to the shores of Santorini. You wouldn’t think it from the name, but The Golden Fleece Hotel in South Melbourne is a Grecian paradise serving ‘yiayia’—Greek comfort food, and offering a stunning wine and cocktail selection. Head to the rooftop terrace on a sunny day, with it’s gorgeous minimalist blue and white décor, ceramic pots and cacti really serving up the island vibe. Keep an eye on their socials as they regularly host Greek style nights with music, dancing and plenty of food.
Where to Live
If we asked you to close your eyes and describe a house of boys in one sentence, we're sure you'd land on ‘navy bedding, blue wash basket, snooker table in place of a dining table and a TV precariously balancing on a black chest of drawers'. Well, voilà. This Moonee Ponds house ticks all the boxes and the boys behind it are looking for a fourth member to join them in mid-December.
Core selling point: rooftop sounds pretty tasty for summer.
Where to Work
Today’s job really has you earning your $35 an hour, with ‘constant talking, laughing, dancing and singing’. Fizz Kids are looking for casual kid’s party hosts, so if your musical theatre degree is gathering dust, this is the job for you. Their parties include science experiments and crafts which sound like fun, but the downside is you even have to plate up their sausage rolls and cucumber sandwiches.
Where to Go
There is a triple threat of events on tonight to spice up our Wednesday nights. Three people you never thought you'd see in a sentence together, Dolly Alderton, Hozier and Bill Bailey all have events on tonight in Melbourne. They are all popular events that have minimal tickets left, so we'll leave you to the Facebook pages and last minute ticket resells if you fancy one of them, best of luck. The 417 writers will be attending one of the three, would love to know your prediction.
