Wednesday 16th October: Sugababes, gnocci & hula hoops
Fun fact of the day: Woolies was actually found to be slightly cheaper than Coles when surveyed earlier this year. Aldi still takes the crown for cheapest prices though, no surprises there. Here is what hump-day has to offer you this week.
The Headlines
We all know how passionate Melbournians get over their hatred of MyKi officers when dodging fares, but now there is something else for us to be watching out for on PT. One commuter was recently fined a massive $296 for having his 'foot on the edge of the seat' on a train—much to his outrage. Jury is out on this one, get your dirty shoes off the seat but it does seem a tad extreme.
It's officially let's go to a rooftop even if we're not guaranteed a heater season, so here's a round up of the best 60 Melbourne has to offer. From boujee CBD spots like Her and Farmer's Daughter to your classic Northside spots of The Provincial Hotel and Full Moon Fever there really is a roof for every occasion. Time to celebrate with an Aperol we say.
The Sugababes have announced an Australia tour, and they'll be gracing Melbourne with their presence on 3rd January—what better way to kick off 2025. With their famously ever-changing line-up, it’s anyone’s guess who will turn up on stage, but at least some noughties bangers are guaranteed. Presale starts today at 12pm, with general tickets dropping the same time on Thursday.
Where to Eat and Drink
With a backpacker budget friendly Wednesday night offer, $35 can get you gnocchi, wine and live jazz at Rossi in Prahran. It has a sexy interior, a divine drinks menu and tiramisu served tableside. If gnocchi isn’t tickling your tastebuds, they also host Aperitivo Hour every day from 12-6 with $9 cocktails.
Where to Live
As if some of these house listings weren't enough like hinge profiles already, these girls offering a room in Brunswick are even calling you their 'perfect match'. Swipe right if you're looking for somewhere to host your summer dinner parties and BBQs, a room with a sunny balcony and housemates with a shared love of Excel spreadsheets.
Core selling point: pink painted exterior.
Where to Work
Abacus AKA the home of the nicest matcha in Melbourne (well Southside at least) is looking for a new barista. The inside-outside layout makes it the perfect place to work in the run-up to summer, and the free food and drink absolutely stinks of you never making breakfast at home ever again.
Where to Go
It's the final week of the Fringe Flavours night market at Queen Vic market in the CBD, before the Summer market restarts in November. With a buzzy atmosphere, and a few cabaret dancers and hula hoops thrown in for good measure, the night market is a must-visit for foodies. The food stand queues (and prices) can be daunting, but it's definitely worth a visit for a midweek venture out of the house.
