Wednesday 18th September: free coffee, talking dogs & strictly no parties
Hope you were all sipping schooners and enjoying the bloody lovely Spring sunset last night. Plenty of hump day activities going on today, here is our recs.
The Headlines
Rumour has it Melbourne is getting a gorgeous Harvest supermoon tonight, the largest moon of the year. It was meant to be visible last night too, but we must admit it looked like a bog standard moon to us. Hopefully tonight our minds will be blown.
The Queen Vic Night Markets is launching its collab with the Melbourne Fringe, and it’s on Wednesday nights for the next month (starting tonight). Famous for the popular winter and summer markets, it’s spicing up the spring instalment by throwing in a few cabaret dancers with hula hoops.
Oatly will give you a free coffee if you ring their hotline and listen to the sound of oats mooing. Weird, we agree, but anything for a freebie. You can only redeem it at a Northside café though (rah), as if they're not drinking enough oat milk up there already. To secure the goods, (simply) call 1800 OAT-FIX. It's actually not that simple and took us longer than we care to admit to work it out so we'll spell it out for you - call 1800-628349. Enjoy.
Where to Eat and Drink
This midweek deal at Union House in Richmond gets you steak, chips, salad and a sauce for $24. We'd argue it's actually cheaper than cooking yourself if you factor in the emotional stress of overcooking your flatmate's steak. It's a cosy little spot but there's also a rooftop option if you fancy steak alla sunset.
Where to Live
Rejoice all South Yarra dwellers, Nic of Fairy Floss fame just declared us the trendy neighbourhood. Sadly, despite the heaps of friends that's bound to bring, there's a strictly no parties rule in the flat. A loophole, however... one of the main selling points appears to be a 5* hotel down the road, so maybe you can just host them there instead.
Core selling point: great view that seems to be missing from the spare room.
Where to Work
Are you a) missing your dog and b) addicted to TikTok? Get your puppy fix and become a content creator for Dog Friendly Co. As their newest 4 legged content creator, your key responsibilities will include interviewing dogs (owners) on the street, staying on top of social media trends and capturing real life animal moments. Fast forward six months and we just know you'll be in some kind of dog costume roaming the streets of St Kilda, Alan Sugar eat your heart out.
Where to Go
The new CBD stand-alone exhibition Accidentally Wes Anderson opens its doors today. Featuring Wes inspired photography from around the globe, 10 themed areas, and a self-proclaimed ‘visually captivating journey’, sounds like a lovely way to spend $21 on your Wednesday afternoon. If you have only seen the Grand Budapest Hotel and call yourself a fan, we won’t tell anyone.
