Wednesday 19th March: Restaurant Awards, Forced Fun & More Run Clubs
Two of the UK's greatest exports are both performing in Melbourne tonight—Fatboy Slim at Revs, and Dua Lipa at the Rod Laver Arena. Both are sold out, so if you're not a lucky ticket holder, keep an eye on resale websites for a spot of spontaneous mid-week fun. Both quite different vibes, your choice of ticket hunt says a lot about you. Here is what else you can expect from Melbourne today.
The Headlines
After the gorgeous beaches and hot Januarys, Yo-Chi raises its hand as one of the things Australia does better than back home. Well, in a fun new launch, true fans can now buy themselves a reusable bowl to save both the environment and 10% off every order. Available in lilac or bone and if you order this week, you'll get a 50% off voucher for the first time you use it too—basically making money.
Il Mercato Centrale made headlines last year with its monumental opening of the iconic Italian food hall in the CBD, but it seems just pizza and pasta aren't enough for the people of Melbourne. They have now branched out to include a Texas BBQ stand in the hall—great to see that famous Italian delicacy of brisket and slaw finally being served. Armstrong Barbecue is now available to order at the much loved venue.
Melbourne's foodie scene buzzes with "best of" claims constantly, and this week is no different. Monday's Time Out Melbourne Food & Drink Awards crowned Greasy Zoe's as the critics' "Restaurant of the Year", while Deep End Pizza took the people's choice award. Take a look at the complete winners across all categories, there are plenty of new places to add to your list.
Where to Eat and Drink
Weekdays are made for lunch deals that get you out of the office, and today’s pick is another local favourite: By Korea in Chinatown. This spot serves up authentic Korean dishes like crispy fried chicken, flavourful japchae (Korean-style stir-fry), and savoury bulgogi (our favourite marinated beef). Every weekday, you can snag their lunch deal—one main course served with rice and side dishes—for just $18. And if you’re lucky, you might even find it on EatClub too.
Where to Live
This Docklands flat comes with a pool, gym, spa, co-working space, cinema room, private dining area, and even a yoga studio giving you little reason to ever leave the house. The luxury isn't quite extended to the balcony, which currently features camping chairs instead of rattan garden furniture, but maybe you can treat your new housemate with something from DFO down the road. Technically no backpackers allowed but nothing an archive of an Instagram post or two can't fix.
Core selling point: those sun loungers look so comfy.

Where to Work
Trendy bowling alley Strike is looking for high-energy casuals to join their team in the CBD. Team members are there to make things as fun as possible for hen and stag parties, corporate events, and kids’ birthdays—so pretty much creating as much forced fun as possible. Be warned, they do refer to their employees as "motherfunners"—extremely tough read.
Where to Go
Two things Melbourne arguably has too many of are wine bars and run clubs, so Bobbie Peels has seen the light and combined the two. Meeting in North Melbourne every Wednesday at 5:45 pm, the group heads out for a 5km loop before finishing back at the pub—because nothing says post-run recovery like a well-earned pint. It’s free to join, open to all levels, and a good excuse to dust off the trainers if you've been telling yourself to do so every week over the summer.
