Wednesday 26th March: Comedy Festival, Floral Artwork & Robbie Controversy
Robbie Williams' on-stage interaction with the Lord Mayor when being presented with the keys to the city was equal parts bizarre and iconic—a core memory of the summer. Now, the decision to honour our Robbie is under review after some questioned whether he was the right pick. Another free concert to watch him hand them back? Surely.
Let Us Entertain You with the latest city happenings while we await the verdict.
The Headlines
Melbourne's answer to the Edinburgh Fringe kicks off today, with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival taking over the city for the next three weeks. There are 700 shows to choose from, with local and international comics in town to make us laugh. Browse the full show list here, or if you're feeling overwhelmed with choice, check out these hand-picked must-see shows. There’s even a few days’ overlap with the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival—who said Autumn had to be boring?
British jazz quintet Ezra Collective is coming to Melbourne for an intimate show at The Forum on May 29th. Fresh off a big BRIT Awards win, the group will bring a blend of jazz, Afrobeat, and hip-hop to one of the city’s most-loved music venues. Pre-sale tickets have just dropped, with the rest on sale tomorrow morning. What a wholesome autumn activity.
There's nothing quite like a pop culture reference to where you live to make you feel like you truly belong. This fun list rounds up the best tracks with our beloved Melbourne weaved into the lyrics. Some are more subtle than others, but there's bound to be at least one worthy of a playlist add. If not? Excellent local knowledge for your next pub quiz.
Where to Eat and Drink
It’s that time of year again when an Italian judging panel sits down to rank the top 50 pizzas in the Asia-Pacific region—and coming in at number five, right on our doorstep, is Shop225 in Pascoe Vale. If dietary requirements often keep you dining in rather than eating out, this is the place for you. Born from a passion for bringing people of all dietary needs together, they’ve won numerous awards for their coeliac, vegan, and vegetarian options, but rest assured, quality is never compromised—they serve up some of the best pizzas in town.
Where to Live
Upon first glance, we thought this sauna was right in the middle of the bedroom, it turns out it's actually elsewhere in the house. Better, but still fascinating. We're desperate to know the story of how it came to be. Is this a common thing that's gone completely over our heads? Please do enlighten us. Matilda and Dan are your future housemates and they want someone who's not going to treat the place like a hostel and wants to join in the occasional shared dinner—not too much to ask really.
Core selling point: can't be anything other than the massive red box can it.

Where to Work
Sidekicker is advertising for a pretty cool opportunity to work for Uber as a casual Operations Support Specialist. They're looking for a petrolhead who knows their international cars, has basic coding skills, and someone who knows their way around a spreadsheet to help out with plenty of vague tasks like projects, reporting, and strategy. It's a Monday to Friday hybrid role where you can make around $6,000 per month—can't complain about that.
Where to Go
If comedy isn't your thing, the Melbourne Flower & Garden Show also starts today, the biggest horticulture festival in the Southern Hemisphere with 100,000 people set to attend. Held at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens until Sunday, the event features flower and plant stalls, floral artwork pieces, food trucks, show gardens, and live demonstrations. There's even some complimentary wine tasting going on, so surely head down for that if nothing else.
