Wednesday 2nd October: Tim-Tam croissants, lawn bowls & audience participation
For anyone not in this Myki inspector alert space Facebook page, we recommend joining, both for a laugh and for very serious research purposes. In other news, here is Wednesday’s happenings in Melbourne.
The Headlines
Last month we brought you the sad news that Moon Mart and its char siu bacon-and-egg rolls were no more. Well alas, it seems they heard the outcry and are making a comeback. This time, the popular Korean-Japanese cafe will grace the streets of South Melbourne, with doors set to open in mid-October—not long to wait at all.
If you fancy a bit of mid-week indulgence, Lune Croissanterie has just released its October menu, and it's a special one. With the stand-out being the Aussie favourite Tim-Tam croissant, looking like it would well and truly spike your blood sugar and make you not want to eat for a week, what's not to love. They have 3 locations across the city and are well known for being best in the biz.
Where to Eat and Drink
Casa Mariotti is a new Italian venue in Richmond owned by Italians, and they are offering a bargain Aperitivo hour menu until the end of October. With drinks from $9, they provide free Roman bites such as bruschetta and frittata for diners between 4pm-6pm Wed-Sun. No stale popcorn or man-handled nuts around here as freebies, Casa Mariotti are doing complimentary snacks just right.
Where to Live
This four-month sublet is perfect for anyone looking to live their best Brunswick summer. Available from the 15th, this two-bedroom house is furnished to a high standard, if they do say so themselves. The fig tree and rose bushes are so nice that they get a double mention, so if you struggle to keep a house plant alive, maybe keep looking.
Core selling point: more wardrobe doors than the corridor knows what to do with.
Where to Work
Australia is probably the only place on earth where playing lawn bowls under the age of 65 is cool, making it very on-brand that Richmond's local club is looking for a new bar supervisor. Get ready to serve the stags and hens of Melbourne with a few forced fun corporate events thrown in for good measure. No mention of skill level required, but we're sure if you hit the jack in your interview they'll offer you the job on the spot.
Where to Go
Another Fringe show for today, finally some midweek action that isn't a dinner offer. 'The Migration Office' is a comedy show with a mix of stand-up and improv where the cast critique experiences they have had down to their ethnicities. It apparently features some 'light/low pressure audience participation' so best to secure a seat at the back to play it safe, unless you've got an entertaining story to add to the discourse yourself of course.
