Wednesday 9th April: Dubai Strawberries, Hawker Markets & Best Food In The World
It can be hard to describe your classic Fitzroy boy to someone that doesn't know Melbourne, but these guys have really hit the nail on the head with this TikTok. It made us laugh, so we thought it might entertain you too. Here is the latest from Melbourne today.
The Headlines
In no surprise to anyone who's queued for a croissant at Lune or argued over the best banh mi in the city, Melbourne’s just been named the top foodie place in the world. Home to over 3,500 restaurants serving up more than 100 cuisines—no matter what you fancy, you can find it here. We’ve officially earned the right to be fussy about coffee and complain when a dish is missing chilli oil.
Melbourne’s music scene has been struggling lately, with spots like The Vineyard and The Gasometer under threat of closure. Back in the UK, they’re trialling a fix—letting locals buy a stake in their favourite venues to keep them alive (think Manchester’s The Snug or Preston’s The Ferret). This piece from Beat makes a strong case for why Melbourne should follow suit. So how much are we all chipping in for Revs then?
Now that stepping out of the house no longer means shedding litres and litres of sweat, there's no better time to spend the day getting that step count up. Here is a list of the best walks in Melbourne that don't require much travel out of the city, but surprisingly still give you that great outdoors vibe. The Brighton to Beaumaris trail could even be the new Bondi to Coogee walk—you heard it here first.
Where to Eat and Drink
Rong Cha is a Thai-inspired café on Little Lonsdale, and it might just be our new favourite lunch spot. They’ve just hopped on the bandwagon and launched the viral ‘Dubai Strawberries’—a dreamy combo of strawberries, pistachio, and chocolate. All their dishes are a blend of the Thai food we know and love, tailored to suit Melbourne café culture. Bonus: daily coffee happy hour from 11 am to 2:30 pm, with hot coffee for just $3.50.
Where to Live
We'd have put our money on this house being Northside somewhere if you'd made us guess, but actually, this gem is hidden down Prahran's gorgeous Greville Street. Chapel St Coles would be your nearest supermarket, so you can still look forward to a little bit of chaos in your weekly shop. You'd be living with an Aussie/Scottish blend, and the place itself looks like a nice little winter sun trap.
Core selling point: an outdoor chalkboard for free entertainment?

Where to Work
A cool opportunity has come up at the Melbourne Cricket Club to be an Event Day Communications Coordinator. This role sounds just a couple of steps away from being a sports reporter—being there at the MCG on match day to monitor socials and write reports on the events. They are asking for an appreciation of Australian cultural heritage and sporting history, so as long as you can talk about your love for the Aussie cricket team, you're in with a shot.
Where to Go
We promise we're not sponsored by Queen Vic Market, but the next stint of the evening schedule kicks off tonight and this one is set to transport you back to your gap year travels. The Hawker 88 Night Markets run for five weeks and will be filled with everything from Filipino barbecue to Singapore noodles, plus live music and themed events. Lovely way to spend a midweek evening.
